Brenda Steers, Loveman Kornreich & Steers

Brenda is president of Loveman, Kornreich & Steers, Inc. which was founded in 1977 by the merger of two firms. Both these firms enjoyed an excellent reputation as professionals with knowledge and integrity. LKS continues to maintain this reputation among our clients and insurance carriers.

She started at the firm in 1984 and worked as Senior Vice President in charge of operations. She became President and owner of the firm in 2007 where she continues to develop insurance programs that help businesses and individuals protect their assets and earnings against a variety of physical and financial hazards.

The operations of staffing firms are generally not fully understood by brokers, agents and insurance companies who do not specialize in this industry. Their unfamiliarity with the unique business models leads to carriers declining or only approximating the exact coverages needed for optimum protection, ultimately increasing the cost of risk. Loveman, Kornreich & Steers, Inc. (LKS) has been a specialist in the Staffing Industry for over 20 years and was appointed the first “Industry Partner” of New York Staffing Association (NYSA) in 1992.

Most of us have heard of ESOPs, but may only have a vague idea of what ESOPs are. We may think that ESOPs are available to only large, sophisticated Fortune 1000 companies and require specialized professional services not available to middle market staffing companies. In actuality, companies of all sizes set up ESOPs. In the U.S. today, there are over 11,000 companies with ESOPs in a wide variety of diverse industries ranging from nationally known car rental agencies and airlines to boutique public relations firms, trucking companies and, yes, staffing companies. ESOPs provide significant tax and nontax benefits to both business owners and employees. An ESOP is a qualified, defined contribution plan that invests primarily in the stock of a company that sponsors it. From a business owner’s perspective, an ESOP also provides a dependable buyer for the company.

    Speaker:

    Steven Nicokiris
    Managing Director and Shareholder
CBIZ & Mayer Hoffman McCann CPAs

A true client advocate, Steven helps his clients with a wide range of business needs including: advising on effective business and tax planning strategies; making meaningful introductions to enhance business and profitability; and efficiently planning, managing and supervising audit engagements and other special projects. Steven also takes a leadership role in the overall growth of the New York office, as well as the firm nationally, by spearheading business development opportunities along with enhancing the business development skills of the firm’s staff. He has been the trainer for the firm's Tomorrow’s Rainmakers Program in the New York office since inception.

Steven shares his thought leadership expertise as a lecturer at various professional organizations and financial institutions on topics related to financial statement analysis, fraud prevention, ESOPs and the power of benchmark statistics. In addition, he frequently lectures as a guest speaker at various colleges and universities on various topics including business writing, interviewing/job seeking tips and techniques and the benefits of working in a middle-market accounting firm.
